A DIY craft inspired cake is a super fun way to celebrate a loved one’s birthday.
Cake decorating has a wonderful ability to transform sweet delicious cake into beautiful pieces of work. Just like DIY craft projects, cake decorating is inspired by real life things.

Art n Crafts Cake
Found from Shamima Desai
Here is a true art n craft cake. I love the little hand painted easel on the cake. Use food coloring to make your own painting. If you want more of watercolor effects add a little bit of a clear alcohol like vodka to loosen the food color.
Found from Cake Central
The fondant buttons are really easy! Use a small round cutter and then one that is slightly smaller than the first. The bigger circle is for cutting all the way and the slightly smaller one is for pressing lightly to create an indent. Use a small pipping tip for the middle holes. Now you have edible crafts!
Vintage Sewing Machine Cake
Found from Small Things Iced
The craftsmanship of the sewing machine is just incredible but my favorite detail is the pincushion cupcakes and the little thimbles. A lot of cakes succeed because of the small perfect details.

As a child I remember making a dream catcher in Girl Scouts. Making an edible dream catcher is awesome. Not only will it take away your bad dreams but fill them with sweet cake memories!
Knitting Birthday Cake
Found from Cake Central
This cake is brilliant and so realistic. The pattern of the blanket is just incredible. Simply take two ropes of fondant and braid them together, then do it again with another two ropes. Next combine the 2 separate braided ropes together for the knitting pattern on the front of the cake. Might take some practice but once mastered it is a brilliant technique!
Stain Glass Cake
Found from Oh My Fiesta
Here is another simply beautiful cake. Start with an airbrushed or food colored painted background on the cake. Create hand painted images like a flower or animal then with black royal icing create the lines of the stain glass pattern. Once the black lines are on there be careful not to get the cake wet or else the black will bleed.
