Are you using Pinterest strategically as a wedding professional?
Wedding inspiration has a huge search interest on Pinterest. Pinners are using Pinterest everyday to plan for their future or upcoming wedding day.
Today we are talking about how to set up, convert and automate your Pinterest so you can increase brand awareness, gain a following and book more clients.
Why Pinterest is Important to Your Wedding Business
Weddings are HUGE on Pinterest! In fact, a recent article from Pinterest states, there are more than 3 billion wedding pins on Pinterest alone. Think of it like the ultimate wedding magazine, scrapbook and pin board platform. Pinterest is the perfect place for wedding inspiration and planning.
Since Pinterest is a leader in wedding planning its important as a wedding professional to be active and consistent on Pinterest. Through automation systems like Tailwind, a Pinterest and Instagram scheduler, you can easily set up a consistent pinning schedule, see what your audience is responding to (later create tailored content for your own blog) and get eyes on your content which can lead to you booking more clients.
Here are Some Facts About Pinners Looking for Wedding Inspiration:
- 69% of pinners with wedding boards aren’t even engaged yet; like little girls, they are dreaming of their future wedding aka the dreamers
- 31% of pinners with wedding boards are the doers, actively in the wedding planning process
- Pinners are searching for bridal gowns, hairstyles, centerpieces, flowers, venue inspiration and wedding photography inspiration
- Pinners share Pinterest mood boards with their wedding vendors to get a certain look. (For example, brides collaborate with their wedding planners on a wedding group board so both parties are participating in real time).
- Weddings is a keyword board category; using this can yield you better search results
The Two Types of Pinners: Dreamers and Doers
How can you really tap into the mindset of someone planning their wedding?
There are two types of pinners: the dreamers and the doers. The dreamers aren’t even engaged yet but have been planning their wedding day for years. These future brides aren’t necessarily looking at trends but they are gathering ideas, tips and inspirations.
The doer is the bride who is engaged and is ready to take action. They’re not planning their wedding for today or even the same month but a year in advance. As a content creator or a wedding service provider, you need to be anticipating wedding season trends. You already need to be thinking about spring/summer of the next year. You have to be thinking for the future.
So, now that you know there are a lot of pinners who are looking for wedding inspiration, how can you, as a wedding professional, use Pinterest to grow your brand awareness, gain a following and book more clients? These 5 Pinterest tips will help you grow your wedding service business!
1. Convert to a Business Profile
The most important step any business can take on Pinterest is to convert to a business profile. Having a business profile enables you to confirm your domain, which will lead pinners (and hopefully, future booking clients) back to your website. This also lets the brides know when they are clicking on a pin that it’s coming from a verified site and not a spam one.
Create 10 niche-specific boards on the popular wedding-related topics mentioned above to create a catalogue of your photography or wedding planning style. Also make a board that is branded to your company like “Best of Your Company Name Wedding Board.” For the other niche boards, use board names like wedding dress, engagement portraits, bridal bouquets, wedding centerpieces, etc.. and fill those boards with pins and images of weddings you have photographed or planned. Use other inspiration you’ve found on Pinterest to pin to those boards as well. Start with a minimum of 10 pins per board, so its looks full when someone first lands onto your Pinterest profile.
For local wedding professionals, it’s smart to create a board that’s dedicated to local venues or region where you often work (ex: Santa Barbara Wedding Venues). If someone sees that you’ve taken a beautiful image at a venue they love, you could likely be the person they choose to book. Pinterest is about discovery. You have the opportunity to inspire someone with your image through your keywords. (This is a popular way to book cold visitors).
2. Use Pinterest Optimized Keywords and Images
Pinterest as a platform prefers vertical images with a 2:3 ratio. This looks better for mobile searching to have vertical photos. Start with 600x900px images. Showcase your beautiful wedding photos with a branded image by dropping your logo or watermark into the bottom center of your photo.
Having a branded image is important. It gives context to your future bride—if she sees a style she likes popping up all over Pinterest and can clearly read your logo, she might book you for her wedding.
Keywords are another crucial part of succeeding on Pinterest. Your wedding photography or planning business is likely local—make sure you are using local keywords and hashtags in your descriptions, for example: Thousand Oaks Wedding Photographer, #santabarbaraweddingplanner
3. Create Content for Your Bride
Do you blog for your wedding business? If you aren’t, blogging is a great way to showcase your work, style, and venues. Make sure each blog post has a Pinterest-friendly image and that you share it on Pinterest to your own personal brand board and niche-related boards that fit the content.
Create blog posts that highlight a specific wedding style—a beautiful blush and navy wedding in Santa Barbara might attract the Santa Barbara bride looking for a photographer or planner to book with that style. Use ‘search friendly’ keywords in your pin descriptions.
4. Converting Cold Visitors into Booking Clients
Saves and impressions are great, but getting the traffic to your website is what’s most important. And once you get them to your website, you want to take them on a journey. Do you have a website that easily converts visitors to leads? Make sure you have a visible ‘about page’ or ‘contact me’ link so that brides can inquire about your services. If your website isn’t easy to navigate, you might be losing potential leads. Double check once they’re on your website from Pinterest, they know exactly what to do.
Always place a call to action at the end of your blog posts. If you have good reviews on The Knot or Yelp, create a testimonial page on your site. That way, anyone coming to your site will see that you are recommended by other people.
5. Consistency is Key on Pinterest
One of the most important things you can do is to be consistent on the Pinterest platform and Pinterest actually rewards pinners for being consistent by putting their content in the front. Pinning 5 pins a day to start and creating one piece of content a week from your website is a great way to slowly grow your traffic from Pinterest.
Since it is so important to be consistent, it can be difficult to pin manually everyday especially when you have a busy schedule. This is where an automation system like Tailwind, a Pinterest and Instagram scheduler, comes in handy. This automation scheduler will keep your Pinterest account active which will free up your valuable time.

Patience and Practice
When you start something new, especially marketing your business, what type of expectations should you have? Keep in mind that Pinterest is a slow burn. It could take 3-6 months to see traffic coming in from the platform. Of course, service-based businesses don’t need thousands of people on their site every day. You can only serve a certain number of people a month anyway. You just need a minimal amount of clicks that will turn into leads.
Your strategy doesn’t have to be perfect. You just need to get started and get your content out there. If you’re using keywords on your blog and creating content regularly, you’re improving your SEO presence as well.
If you don’t know where to start, sit down with a pen and paper and make a list of some action items you need to tackle right away. Then tap into who your bride is so you know who you’re targeting. Just work on these 5 Pinterest tips that will help you kickstart your efforts at marketing your wedding services on Pinterest.
